Double Blind Parallel Clinical Trial with Tenoxicam Versus Piroxicam in Patient with Osteoarthritis

Abstract

|
he therapeutic activity of Tenoxicam, a thienothiazine derivative with analgesic and anti inflammatory properties, was assessed in 60 patients with osteoarthritis of knee by means of two doubleblind study design using Tenoxicam and Piroxicam for 9 month period at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Pusan National University Hospital.
Treatment lasted for four weeks.
With Tenoxciam, excellent or good effect was obtained in 90% compared to 63% for Piroxicam ac-, cording to global assessment of treatment by patient. Also Tenoxicam proved to be more effective compound compared to Piroxicam on the basis of the basis of pain on moving, pain at night and tolerance.
